Are you frustrated because your skin tone is a bit uneven? If so, there are plenty of treatment options available. One option could be IPL Photo Rejuvenation.
There are a number of reasons why your skin tone might not necessarily be even. You may have spent a lot of time leading an active lifestyle in the sun, and after spending so much time in the sun, you might start to notice brown spots beginning to appear. This could include sunspots, freckles, and other blemishes. You might even notice that blood vessels have become more obvious around your face.
With IPL Photo Rejuvenation, you can address a wide variety of issues regarding your skin tone, helping you reveal the best side of yourself. Learn more about this treatment option below, and speak to the professionals at Babcock Dermatology to learn more about how we can help you.
How Does IPL Photo Rejuvenation Work?
With IPL Photo Rejuvenation, the goal is to use powerful lights to address aesthetic issues on the surface of the skin. Unlike lasers, which use different wavelengths of light to deliver treatment options, IPL Photo Rejuvenation uses pulses of light to target specific spots on the surface of the skin. The goal is to target marks that you want treated or removed without damaging your healthy skin cells. As these targeted areas absorb the energy from the IPL system, they will be destroyed and slowly be reabsorbed by the body’s natural healing process. Over time, you will see the spots change color until they disappear completely. If we target blood vessels, you might see immediate results.
What Should You Expect During the Treatment Process?
When you arrive for your treatment process, there are a few expectations you should have. First, we are going to apply gel to the surface of the skin. This will mark the area where you will receive treatment. We will also provide you with an eye shield to protect your eyes during the treatment process.
You will feel changes in sensation as the IPL Photo Rejuvenation device glides over the treatment session. The temperature of your skin will gradually change as we target different areas. You should also expect the treatment process to be done in just a few minutes. Even though it will depend on the extent of the area we are treating, the process goes relatively quickly.
For a few days after the treatment is done, you might feel a bit sore. It might even feel like a mild sunburn, but you should be able to resume your daily activities as soon as the treatment process is done.
How Do You Prepare for IPL Photo Rejuvenation?
Before the day of your procedure, make sure you remove all makeup and lotion. There should not be anything in the way of the laser during the treatment session. We will also recommend that you stay away from sun exposure and tanning beds for approximately one month prior to the treatment session starting. We understand that there is no way for you to totally avoid the sun, but you should not lay out on the beach for an extended amount of time.
We will also review any medications that you take prior to the procedure. There is a chance that we may ask you to stop using certain medications and cosmetic products, but we will review this with you ahead of time. Of note, if you have a history of cold sores, we will recommend that you take Valtrex before the procedure.
What Is the Recovery Process Like After IPL Photo Rejuvenation?
After the treatment session is done, you may feel some mild soreness around the treatment site for a few hours. We will recommend that you stay out of the sun for a while following the treatment, and we will also recommend that you apply some sunscreen if you have to go outside. There is a chance that you may notice some changes in your skin pigment during the next few days, but the blemishes will eventually flake off a few weeks after the procedure is done. We will also recommend that you reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns during the recovery process.
