Micro-needling or collagen induction therapy is a treatment that helps improve the skin’s appearance by creating tiny channels in the skin which improves fine lines, reduces pigment and helps scarring. With this innovative technology collagen is stimulated to form around the micro-channels in the skin resulting in more a more beautiful quality and texture. Additionally, products with medical grade active ingredients can be delivered deeper into the skin making them several times more effective.
Does micro-needling hurt and how long does it take?
Topical numbing cream is applied to the skin about 15 minutes before the procedure. For most of the face there is no pain at all. In a few areas there is some slight discomfort on the level of 1-2 on a scale of 10. The procedure takes about 20 minutes. Plan to be in the office for an hour to fill out paperwork, meet with the provider and have the procedure.
Is there down time and how soon are results seen?
Immediately after the procedure the patient has some redness and minor swelling. It is like a mild sunburn. This lasts about 12 hours. Usually in 24 hours the patient is back to normal with only minor pinkness which is easily covered with make-up. The skin will feel smoother immediately but it takes 4-6 weeks to see the full effect of the healing process. Collagen takes time to form so the results keep getting better and better!
How many treatments does it take?
Patients are evaluated on a case by case basis. In general, skin rejuvenation takes 3-4 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart, melasma and pigmentation reduction takes 6-8 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart and acne scarring reduction takes 8 treatments spaced 2 weeks apart.
